Our Story

Lachlan founded Swell Asset Management in 2014 to manage his personal capital. Since inception, the Swell Global Fund has consistently outperformed the ASX All Ordinaries Accumulation Index and MSCI World Total Return Index after all fees and expenses rising 24.64%. Prior to founding Swell, Lachlan worked for six years as a Senior Analyst at Novaport Capital. During his tenure, the team achieved 23.56% per annum over the 5 year period and was awarded Lonsec Fund Manager of the Year in 2012.
We think like business owners. This means taking a long term view on our investments. We aren't trying to buy in one quarter and sell in the next.

Lachlan Hughes

Founder & Chief Investment Officer

Lachlan founded Swell Asset Management in 2014. He is the Portfolio Manager and responsible for investment decisions. Prior to founding Swell, Lachlan worked for six years as a Senior Analyst with NovaPort Capital, a boutique fund manager owned by Challenger Limited. He has sixteen years’ experience in the financial services industry having held legal and investment roles with The Bank of New York (London), King & Wood Mallesons and Goldman Sachs JBWere.

Professional Qualifications and Memberships: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Bachelor of Commerce (Finance), Bachelor of Laws, Member of Responsible Investment Association Australasia.

Alex Clunies-Ross

Investment Analyst

Alex commenced work with Swell Asset Management in August 2015 as an Investment Analyst. He is responsible for researching and modeling investment ideas. Alex holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) from Griffith University and is a CFA Level 2 candidate.

Mike Hall

Investment Analyst

Mike commenced work with Swell Asset Management in October 2015 moving to a full-time position in August 2016. He is responsible for research and analysis of investment ideas. Mike holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) from Bond University and is a CFA Level 2 candidate.

Teresa O'Connor

Operations Manager & EA

Teresa commenced work with Swell Asset Management in January 2017 as Executive Assistant. She is responsible for the day to day running of the office. Teresa brings 20 years of Finance experience from her time with First National Bank, South Africa.

Christine Hughes

Business Development Manager

Christine commenced work with Swell Asset Management in January 2017. She is responsible for promoting Swell Asset Management through marketing, public relations and communication. Christine holds a Bachelor of Education from Griffith University.
